Call for Papers

Elevate: A Buddhist Journal invites submissions of original, unpublished work that aligns with
the journal’s scope in Buddhist studies. We particularly encourage contributions that engage with
ongoing scholarly conversations or extend discussions presented in earlier issues.
All research articles and critical contributions are evaluated through a double-blind peer review
process to ensure academic integrity and quality. As a diamond open access journal, Elevate
does not charge submission or publication fees, and all published content is freely accessible to
readers worldwide.

Submission Categories
The journal considers submissions in the following categories:
1. Research Articles (5,000–8,000 words)
2. Discussion Papers and Critical Notes (up to 2,000 words)
3. Book Reviews
4. Contemporary Developments, Interviews, and Reflections (up to 1,000 words)
In addition, we welcome proposals for Special Focus sections and Symposia, which provide
opportunities for collaborative and thematic contributions.

Submission Guidelines
Authors should ensure that manuscripts are prepared for anonymous peer review, with
identifying information removed from the main text, notes, and file metadata. Further formatting
and submission details are available on the journal’s website.
Images and multimedia may be included where relevant, provided that authors secure
appropriate permissions for any copyrighted materials.

Submit Your Work
We welcome contributions from established scholars, early-career researchers, and independent
thinkers worldwide. Submissions can be made through our online submission system.

Use of Images
Authors may include images or visual materials where relevant. It is the responsibility of the
author to ensure that all necessary permissions have been obtained for copyrighted material prior
to submission.

Research Articles
Research articles should present original scholarship grounded in clear methodology and
engagement with relevant literature. Submissions are expected to fall within the journal’s subject
areas. All articles are reviewed by specialists in the field selected by the editorial team.
Manuscripts should normally not exceed 8,000 words (including notes and references), unless
prior approval has been obtained.

Special Focus Sections
The journal welcomes proposals for curated thematic sections that address emerging or
significant topics in Buddhist studies. These collections allow for multiple contributions
organized around a shared theme and are particularly suited to collaborative research initiatives.

Discussion Papers and Critical Notes
Short-form contributions (typically under 2,000 words) provide space for focused arguments,
preliminary findings, methodological reflections, or responses to previously published work.
These submissions are intended to encourage scholarly exchange and timely discussion.

Symposia
Symposia consist of a set of brief essays centered on a common topic or question. This format is
ideal for presenting diverse perspectives on current debates, notable publications, or influential
figures in the field. Individual contributions are generally limited to 2,000 words.

Book Reviews
The journal publishes reviews of recent books and relevant scholarly materials. Standard reviews
typically range from 1,200 to 1,500 words, while longer review essays may be considered at the
discretion of the editors. Publishers and authors interested in having their work reviewed are
encouraged to contact the editorial team.

Our Commitment
Elevate: A Buddhist Journal seeks to foster a vibrant and inclusive platform for the study of
Buddhism in its diverse historical and contemporary contexts. We welcome submissions that
offer new insights, challenge existing perspectives, and contribute meaningfully to scholarly
dialogue.
